CASPER, Wyo.– An open house is being held this week in Mills for Natrona County residents interested in the proposed Wyoming Classical Academy tuition-free charter school.
The city of Mills said the charter school would be part of Natrona County School District No. 1, but would be governed by a separate board. Any student living in NCSD Area #1 is eligible for enrollment.
The proposed Academy would be launched as part of the Barney Charter School Initiative, a Hillsdale College outreach program that helps establish new K-12 charter schools.
Wyoming Classical Academy is currently looking for parents who would like to serve on the board of directors or as a component to support the school. More information can be found on the Academy’s website.
Hillsdale describes the model as supporting a “classical education” for K-12 students, emphasizing the centrality of Western tradition in the study of history, literature, philosophy and fine arts . »
The school would initially be housed in the old Mills Elementary School, although negotiations to secure land to build a brand new school are underway, according to the town of Mills.
